Finally, District Court Judge Susan Bolton has put an end to the case of the controversial Arizona’s law for immigrant. On Wednesday, she decided to put the Arizona’s cruel immigration law inactive temporarily and stopping the most controversial part of the law effectively from Thursday. According to the detail in the temporary mandate, it has disabled most part of the law, including the most controversial one where it stated that it is required for police officer to check the immigration status of the people they stopped and because of that, all immigrants have to bring all their paper at all time to ensure their immigration status in case checked by the police officer.
This decision and temporary action of the court is not putting off SB 1070 forever, it is just temporary and as expected by many people, the suit of the federal to the state will still carry on. But to calm the situation and ensure to the protestant that the federal government will win at the court, the judge has stated and clearly underline their statement about the federal authority on this matter. It stated that that a state cannot preface the federal authority on the immigration matter.
This decision has made the public pleased. And for certain people, this makes the public hope that it will bring the same advantage to the similar case about filtering legislatures across the country.
Although it seems that the court did not support the side of Arizona, the power of the state will not end here. Several local law agencies that were assigned to enforce the local law have already starting to turning over illegal immigrants to the federal authorities and it will definitely continue to the next phase that will lead the illegal immigrants back to their home country. For example, in Maricopa, Sheriff Joe Arpaio is now under federal investigation for civil rights violation. He has helped in the deportation process of 26,000 illegal immigrants, counting from the year 0f 2007. It is about one-quarter of the total number of national deportation during the period. But in the end, none will able to get a way out of their problem, neither Arizona nor other state. This makes only one appropriate response is available. That is to let the frustrated public to hold the federal government to its word, and explain the authority on the subject and should be stressed to use it.
